Health Metrics
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a common measure of whether your weight is healthy. It is calculated as: weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²). The WHO uses BMI as a key reference for assessing obesity levels.
According to WHO standards, a healthy BMI range for adults is 18.5 - 24.9. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25.0 - 29.9 is overweigh, and 30.0 and above is obese.
BMI cannot distinguish between muscle and fat — muscular individuals may be misclassified. It also does not apply to pregnant women, children, or athletes. Consider combining it with body fat percentage and waist circumference.
The key is calorie balance: a deficit for weight loss (burn more than you consume), or a surplus for weight gain. Aim for 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week, along with a balanced diet and adequate sleep.
