WherePut Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
WherePut is a home inventory and item-location app. We care about your privacy and the security of your household data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we store it, and how you can control it.
Core records, search, viewing, and image recognition are designed to work locally on your device first. AppNest cloud sync and Apple iCloud sync are optional features that you choose to enable.
2. Information We Process
2.1 Information you provide
- Item and place records: places, containers, item names, categories, tags, aliases, notes, location descriptions, quantities, favorite status, creation dates, and update dates.
- Photos: item, container, or place photos that you take or select from your photo library. Photos are stored locally by default and are used for item records and retrieval.
- Search queries: keywords you enter in the app to match item names, tags, notes, and location information.
- Support content: issue descriptions, contact details, screenshots, or other information you voluntarily provide when asking for support.
2.2 Information processed when sync is enabled
- Device registration information: used to identify your device, authorize AppNest cloud sync, and protect sync access.
- Cloud sync data: when you enable AppNest cloud sync, structured place, container, and item records may be synced through AppNest.
- iCloud data: when you enable iCloud sync, Apple iCloud may sync structured records across devices using the same Apple ID.
- Service logs: request time, status, and error information used to troubleshoot issues, maintain service stability, and prevent abuse.
2.3 Purchases and membership status
If you use WherePut Plus membership, the app reads subscription, purchase, and restore-purchase status returned by Apple to determine membership status. Payments, refunds, and subscription management are handled by Apple.
3. Device Permissions
- Camera: used to take photos of items, containers, and places.
- Photo Library: used to select existing photos for item, container, or place records.
- Network Access: used for AppNest sync, membership status checks, legal document viewing, and necessary service communication.
- iCloud: used only if you enable iCloud sync for structured data across devices using the same Apple ID.
4. How We Use Information
- Core functionality: save item records, display photos, search for items, and manage places and containers.
- On-device recognition: image recognition is performed on device by default to prefill item names, categories, and tags. Recognition results are saved only after your confirmation.
- Sync: provide AppNest cloud sync or Apple iCloud multi-device sync after you enable those features.
- Experience improvements: troubleshoot errors, improve performance, and refine app workflows.
- Security: prevent abnormal requests, abuse, fraud, or activity that may affect service stability.
- Membership: verify purchase status, restore membership benefits, and handle subscription-related issues.
5. Storage and Retention
- Local data: stored on your device until you delete records, clear local data, or uninstall the app.
- Local photos: stored in the app's local storage. They may be removed when the related record is deleted or local data is cleared.
- Cloud sync data: stored only after you enable AppNest cloud sync, for sync and recovery. You may request deletion of synced AppNest data from within the app.
- iCloud data: processed and synced by Apple iCloud. You can manage iCloud through system settings.
- Purchase records: managed by Apple. We read only the purchase status necessary for membership features.
- Support and error records: retained only as needed to resolve issues and maintain service reliability.
6. Sharing and Third-Party Services
We do not sell your personal information. To provide app functionality, we may use the following services as necessary:
- Apple services: App Store in-app purchase, iCloud, Keychain, Camera, Photo Library, and other system services.
- AppNest cloud sync: processes necessary structured data only after you enable sync.
- Legal requirements: we may process necessary information when required by law, regulation, or legal process.
The current version does not include advertising networks or third-party ad tracking. Photos are not uploaded to the cloud for recognition.
7. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data, including system-level secure storage, encrypted transmission, access controls, and necessary access restrictions. No internet or device environment is completely secure, so please protect your device, system account, and passcode.
